2.3.14 Football Roundup
Charlie
Charlie Adam was, is and most probably always will be a thug and nasty piece of work. Never one to tackle with care, he has for years been someone rather willing to serve up "afters" as many refer to it - the following through on a tackle unnecessarily, or 'innocently' leaving a leg or elbow in the vicinity of an opponent who has a moving body part that simply cannot avoid being injured as a result.
Unsavoury, cuntish, disgusting, criminal; all apply. Anyone who's been paying attention will know that this latest display from him (on Giroud) is hardly a move away from his normal behaviour, and it beggars belief that he's not been outed a long time ago as distasteful. No doubt he'll claim innocence ad that the stamp on Giroud was accidental. It is quite obvious to me when a player knows full well where an opponent is, and proceeds without due care and attention, but with one very clear intention, while looking the other way for a split second in order to present an alibi.
Sol
Sol Campbell was not appointed permanent captain during his ten years playing for England - apparently because he's black. Sorry, but not convinced, Sol. I always found you to be a bit full of yourself, and out for yourself. That's possibly unfair, seeing as 95% of footballers are probably that way inclined these days.
MOTD
Match of the Day has come in for criticism because not enough of the football pundits are black. This argument is another concession to political correctness affecting day to day living. I have no idea of the actual mix of punditry on TV, although I'm aware of quite a few who are not part of the alleged "all white" approach. But we are in danger of doing a disservice across the board if there are quotas that are required on all programmes. With this in mind, then, I suggest that the BBC is failing in its presentation of football, not by having too few black contributors on screen, but by having NO disabled pundits at all, and NO women pundits at all. So, where's the fucking equality, then? I suggest that this is a rather more stark fact than whether the BBC has used the right mix of ex-footballers and managers.
Alan
While Alan Pardew seems from the picture to be receiving a "there, there" hug from the Hull City players, we are all aware that he was instead showing some aggression with a feeble version of a headbutt and the fallout is massive. So far, there's been confirmation of a fine (£100,000) by Newcastle and an investigation by the FA. I think the whole thing shows what a complete fucking mess the game is in.
We have Wayne Rooney promised £85,000,000 for kicking a ball about twice a week (plus training) and it is an insult to the country that this sort of input gets him £300,000 per week, on top of which there are the usual trappings such as sponsorship, endorsements and so-called 'image rights'. When players do move clubs, the transfer fees and personal terms are demonstrations of sheer lunacy on the part of the clubs, with agents taking millions in commission, or 'arrangement fees', or whatever their cuts are referred to as, after touting their men on a mad merry-go-round.
Anelka is appealing, after being served with a 5-match ban, after his gesture. Tough shit, mate. If you use (and abuse) your position to make any gesture that's got nothing to do with football, then you are simply asking for trouble.
Alan Pardew has asked for rather more trouble, and everyone will be condemning him. However, in the circus that is now Premier League football, is it any surprise that an incident like this has arisen? Not really. There is no respect, no dignity, no standard of behaviour that's promoted within the game. It is a shambles, and I find it all rather funny. Players cheat and kick each other on the field, they con referees before moaning like fuck, managers only see things they want to see before having their say, the FA is simply a slack cunt of an organisation, and the general approach to refereeing is pathetic. Players are out for themselves, agents want a massive cut for fuck all, and the fans pay for everything.
As Alan has already shoved a linesman, squared up to Wenger, and called Pellegrini a "fucking old cunt", I think he'll find there's no leeway left for this latest act.
