I read in today's paper a load of shit about Misha B being "too black" to win X-Factor. It seems there are people everywhere who are desperate to try and bring colour/race into debates. As far as I'm concerned, she was not liked enough by the general public to win a phone vote. The other three acts poled more votes, so Misha B lost out. I do suspect that her alleged 'meanness' and 'bullying' did little to endear her to the public. But let's not get all sinister and start assessing how black someone is because she didn't get through to the final.
In other areas, there's a weird difference in the way society (in the UK, I should say) deals with comments and actions. First, take footballer John Terry. He is alleged to have called an opponent a "Black Cunt". JT is claiming he said "Blind" and not "Black". I find it marvellous that the "Cunt" part is not only not being challenged, but is not the issue at all! So, we are all prepared to accept/acknowledge that the target of the comments is a cunt, or that JT has the right to call him a cunt [despite the fact that use of this word should, in accordance with the laws of the game, lead to JT being sent off] but he should be hung, drawn and quartered for using the word "Black" instead of "Blind"! What about the upset that could be caused to the disadvantaged/disabled viewers (sorry, I didn't mean that - it just got typed on autopilot) who are blind. There's a risk now of upsetting every fucking cunt on the planet, except the fucking cunts!
Now, I am not here to defend John Terry, who is a thug most of the time, and clearly not a nice person, and he is a "White Cunt", if I can be so bold. What's annoying though is the way double standards are employed. This week we heard that a gang of four muslims (who happened to be non-white) described a woman as a "White Slag". Surely that's equally deserving of attention? It must be the case that they were guilty of harrassment on racial/colour grounds? John Terry might (doubt it, but might) be punnished for his outburst. Strangely the four who called an innocent victim a "White Slag" were not thought to be out of order. In fact, they went on to kick her repeatedly in the head while screaming obscenities, so that she thought she was going to die. I would suggest that the assault and actual bodily harm was slightly more serious than the verbal onslaught, but they were not locked up for any of it.
So, you can be a "Cunt", and you can be a "White Bitch" and a "White Slag", and you can even be a "Blind Cunt". But you can never be a "Black Cunt". I am sorry, but the world has gone made. The answer is (1) to treat ALL who bring colour/race/ethnicity into it as inciting shit and make them suffer the consequences. It is (2) to lock people up who assault others for no reason. It is (3) to ban John Terry.
