TMWSC is sitting at the dining room table, along with TMWSC Senior (Dad). Dad is in fact not one to use the 'C' word, so perhaps should be known as TMWDNUTCW. He is mid-crossword. In the kitchen, is Mum - mother of TMWSC and she likes the word 'Ruddy', so perhaps should be known as TWWSR. However, for the purposes of this exercise, TMWDNUTCW and TWWSR will be referred to as Dad and Mum, respectively. TMWSC will for once be referred to as 'Son'.
Mum: "Would anyone like another cup of tea?"
Dad: "I wouldn't mind a cup of tea; I haven't had one yet."
Mum: "You had coffee!"
Dad: "I haven't had coffee?"
Mum: "Yes you have. Don't you remember the sugar?"
Dad: "What sugar?"
Mum: "You said there wasn't enough sugar in the bowl, and that you had to get more out."
Dad: "Ah, well, maybe; but I can't remember having coffee."
Son: "How long ago?"
Mum: "Ooh, about thirty minutes ago."
Dad: "I can't remember having a coffee (mumbled to Son)
Son: "What's his having a coffee thirty minutes ago got to do with him wanting a cup of tea now?"
Mum: "He can't remember having a coffee."
Nothing is said for a minute or two. In the kitchen, Mum is satisfied that she's had the last word, and at the table, the crossword is being completed at a rather slow speed. Then, TWWSR appears with a cup of tea for TMWDNUTCW (ie. her husband).
Dad: "Oh, you remembered!"
Mum: "I'm not the one who forgets things!"
TWWSR returns to the kitchen, and potters around. A tap is turned on, and then off again, and in a lowered voice, comes:
Mum: "Ooh, you can't beat a drop of water!"
