2.8.11 BBC2 BBC2 BBC2

I appear to have repeated myself on the blog post header . . . Oops.  A far bigger OOOPS needs to be declared by the BBC, which should be renamed British Repeating Corporation.  Anyone looking at the weekly TV listings for Tuesday on BRC2 will be shocked to note the number of repeats.  From the 6am start time until 1.10am the following morning, there are 36 programmes scheduled for screening.  Of these, 32 are repeats!

So, only 11.1% of programmes are new; the rest is regurgitated stuff.  If one calculates based on the running time, the percentage is slightly better, but still atrocious.  200 of the 1150 minutes cater for new programmes, so 17.4%.

However, I contest that the one news programme should be removed completely from these calculations, as by default, news needs to be classed as new (although I wouldn't put it past the BRC to screen repeats of news one day - they are actually testing the approach through the programme 'Have I Got Old News For You', but at least that's funny).  So there are only three new programmes (lasting two and a half hours) to see today on BBC2, shown in a run between 8.00pm and 10.30pm.  That gives new viewing percentages of 8.57% and 13.64% for programme numbers and airtime respectively.  This is appalling service.
