Sadly, the British public has Adrian Chiles to look at, rather than Vanessa Huppenkothen, whom the Mexicans have. Whether you are male or female, surely that would have to be a preferable view on your large screen TV. Instead, we have had to endure not only a poorer view, but the rubbish that leaves Adrian's mouth.
I do accept that there needs to be competence at the job as a primary reason for having it, and that despite TV being a rather visual medium (where the view must surely count) there is space for those whose looks are outweighed by their professional abilities. However, Adrian seems to fall down on both counts. His waffling and gibberish content is so awful that it defies any logic that he's managed to craft for himself even greater prominence through stints on 5 Live, as recently announced. Anchor Man . . . . I think there's a 'W' in need of a home. I suggest that a jam doughnut could present TV viewers with more appeal, both in looks and in the quality of the verbal interaction.
I came across this picture, and had to chuckle. Sadly, Benny Hill is no longer around and cannot defend himself against this insult. As for the World Cup final tonight, I think it has to be BBC1.
